Castle Shannon Leads the Way with a New Martial Arts Class for Women: Jiu-Jitsu for Women, by Women
A few words about the Steel City's newest innovation—a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu class just for women!
Martial arts in general are a wonderful way to learn practical self-defense skills, to exercise and to stay fit, and to develop self-confidence. "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu" or "Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu," in particular, is well-suited for women, because it was specifically developed to allow a smaller, weaker person to defend him/herself against a larger attacker. Unfortunately, many martial arts schools may be intimidating to women who otherwise would like to pursue these benefits.
Steel City Martial Arts of Castle Shannon is one of the first martial arts schools in the country to expressly recognize this dilemma and start a "Jiu-Jitsu for Women, by Women" class. The class meets on Saturday mornings at 11 and is taught by Nora Schoenthal, an experienced local martial artist. The class is for women only, and it focuses on practical "real life" skills. Nora teaches the class with a lively, supportive and gentle touch. But make no mistake—these skills are wildly effective in the real world, and Nora's classes are a super workout!
The first class is always free, and women are encouraged to try a class even if they're not sure that jiu-jitsu is right for them. For more information, check out www.steelcitymartialarts.com.
