Burglaries, Robberies On The Rise In Baldwin, Whitehall

A new FBI report has some some unnerving statistics for residents of the two boroughs.

BALDWIN, PA - The cumulative violent crime rate held steady in Baldwin and Whitehall last year, but the number of robberies, burglaries and thefts in the two communities increased sharply. That’s according to the FBI’s just-released annual “Crime in the United States” report.

Also, the number of vehicle thefts tripled in Baldwin in 2016, while property crime in both Baldwin and Whitehall spiked significantly.

Nationally, violent crime increased for the second consecutive year. There were an estimated 17,250 murders in the nation last year, an 8.6 percent increase from 2015. Overall violent crime rose 4.1 percent last year. Regionally, the number of violent crimes rose in the seven-county Pittsburgh metro statistical area.
