Fort Pitt Blockhouse - An Exploration and Celebration of 250 Years!

Free Program -- Please Register!

Join us for a presentation by Emily Weaver on the history of Pittsburgh’s oldest architectural landmark, the Fort Pitt Block House.  This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Block House which was built in 1764 as a defensive military redoubt for Fort Pitt, a key British fortification during the 18th century.  Used as a private residence for most of the 19th century, the Block House was restored by the Fort Pitt Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1894.  The Fort Pitt Society still owns and operates the site today, keeping it free and open to the public.  Weaver, who is also the curator of the Block House, recently published the first comprehensive history of the building entitled The Fort Pitt Block House (The History Press, Inc., 2013).  Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.
