Liberty Bridge Closing Yet Again This Weekend

Bridge to shut down from Saturday night to Monday morning.

Motorists traveling to and from the South Hills can expect yet another weekend of headaches, as PennDOT once more will close the Liberty Bridge.

The bridge will be shut down in both directions from Saturday at 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. on Monday, as will the inbound Liberty Tunnel. The closures are necessary so crews can continue deck reconstruction, parapet removal, barrier resetting and other construction activities.

The outbound tunnel and P.J. McArdle Roadway will remain open for the entire weekend.·

The closures are necessary as PennDOT continues an $80 million renovation of the bridge that includes deck replacement, ramp reconstruction, structural steel repairs, repainting the entire structure, concrete repairs, signage improvements and installation of a new alternative overhead lane control system. The project won’t be completed until 2018.
