Liberty Bridge Traffic Restricted Again This Weekend

Getting to and from the South Hills won't be fun again.

At the risk of being repetitive, PennDOT once again will make it difficult to get to and from the South Hills this weekend. Major traffic restrictions will be in place for the Liberty Bridge as an $80 million renovation of the span continues.

PennDOT plans to close the inbound Liberty Tunnel and inbound bridge lanes at 8 p.m. on Friday. The outbound lanes will close to traffic approximately two hours after the end of the Penguins playoff game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at PPG Paints Arena

The inbound tunnel and entire bridge will remain closed until 6 p.m. on Saturday, when the bridge will reopen to a single lane of traffic in each direction and the inbound tunnel also will reopen. Traffic restrictions are expected to be lifted by noon on Sunday.

The news isn’t all bad as PennDOT continues concrete placement on the bridge ramps. The outbound tunnel and P.J. McArdle Roadway will remain open the entire weekend.
