Patch Picks: Why the Steelers Aren't Done

Come down from the bridge, Pittsburgh.

The Baldwin-Whitehall Patch presents its weekly Patch Picks feature, highlighting editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more.

This week's Patch Picks (like last week's) definitely falls into that "other" category. Here are five reasons why the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2 this season) are still a solid pick to win the NFL's AFC North Division title.

  • It's Early: The Steelers' 2011 regular season is only 25-percent complete, and Pittsburgh only trails the first-place Baltimore Ravens (3-1) by one game.
  • Experience: Some may call experience "age," which would work against the Steelers in a young man's NFL. But experience still counts for a lot, and these Steelers have won big in the recent past and have dealt with much adversity before.
  • The Schedule: The Steelers' 2011 schedule is tied for the fifth-easiest in the NFL (based on teams' 2010 regular-season records). It's worth nothing, though, that the Ravens have the second-easiest schedule.
  • Troy Polamalu: If Troy Polamalu is still injured from last season, it's been hard to tell so far this year. Polamalu, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, has been playing like the future Pro Football Hall of Famer that he is.
  • Ben Roethlisberger: Big Ben is still the team's starting quarterback. And while Roethlisberger has turned the ball over too much so far this year, he is one of the best quarterbacks in the game and a proven winner.

Enjoy Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans (Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, 1 p.m., CBS). And check back each week for more Patch Picks!
