Significant Special Election Occurring In Baldwin Legislative District

PITTSBURGH, PA — A special election will be held Tuesday in a Pittsburgh-area legislative district that could be help determine which party controls the State House of Representatives and be a preview of how Pennsylvanians will vote in this year's midterms.

The election in the 42nd District is being held to fill the unexpired term of Democrat Dan Miller, who resigned to take an Allegheny County Common Pleas Court judicial seat.

The race pits Democratic nominee Jennifer Mazzocco, 41, an English teach at Taylor Allderdice High School, against Republican nominee Joseph Leckenby, 27, a recent Duquesne University law school graduate.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All registered voters residing in the 42nd Legislative District, regardless of political party affiliation, are eligible to vote in this special election. The Allegheny County Elections Division encourages votersto check their voter registration status and confirm their polling place before Election Day.

The 42nd Legislative District includes:

• Baldwin Township
• Castle Shannon
• Dormont
• Mt. Lebanon
• Upper St. Clair (wards 1, 2, 3-3, 4-1)

As of February 18, 6,063 mail-in ballot applications have been processed in the district, and a total of 3,287 ballots have been returned. Voters who requested a mail-in ballot must return it by 8 p.m.
