2 K-9s Join Bensalem Township Police Force

K-9s Max and Ricco are now on the job in Bensalem Township, joining three other canines in the police department's unit.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —A new "dynamic duo" is now on the job.

The Bensalem Township Police Department "introduced" Max and Ricco, the new four-legged police officers to the rest of the members of the department's K-9 Unit.

K-9 Ricco is a 1-year-old Belgian Malinois and K-9 Max is a 1-year-old Dutch Shepherd.

The canines went through 14 weeks of patrol school with their handlers, Police Officer Thomas Martinka with K-9 Ricco and Officer Dylan Gallagher with K-9 Max.

They recently graduated from the Philadelphia Police Canine Training Center. For the past few weeks, the K-9 Teams underwent in-house training prior to their reassignment with the Patrol Division.

Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo was on the field Wednesday to meet the existing K-9 team, with Max and Ricco joining the department's three other K-9 crimefighters.
