Good news: four Bucks County townships made a new list of safest towns in America.

Local towns that made SafeWise's 2016 list of safest Ameican cities with populations higher than 10,000 residents include Buckingham Township, which was ranked highest in Bucks County and 27th overall. Other nearby towns that made the list include Warwick Township, which came in 33rd, and New Britain Township, which came in 88th. Northampton Township was ranked 31st.

According to SafeWise, Buckingham Township has just 0.15 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. The site’s methodology and ranking system came from Uniform Crime Report data for the full year of 2014.

“Back in the 1700s, George Washington built his army headquarters in one of Buckingham Township's taverns to come up with plans to defeat the British," the site said of Buckingham Township. "Today, Buckingham still has measures to keep its residents safe and secure. The Township Watershed Specialist, for instance, is in charge of preventing floods and subsequent property damage that could wreak havoc on the homes of residents. It's nice to know that the people of Buckingham have someone looking out for their best interest.
