America's Most Dangerous Intersection Is Right Here In Bensalem

The country's most dangerous intersection — the scene of 7 fatal crashes in 10 years — is right here in Bensalem.

The country's most dangerous intersection is right here in Bensalem.

That's according to a new study, which was produced by Time Magazine and mapped by a Chicago law firm. The study, which used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reveals the most dangerous intersection in Pennsylvania and all of the United States is where Knights Road crosses Street Road.

The data used in the study spanned from 2003 to 2012 and analyzed the number of fatal accidents that occurred within 150 feet of each other. The study then focused on those accident sites that were at the crossing of two roads.

The Knights and Street road intersection was the site of seven fatal crashes over the 10-year time period, Time's analysis concluded.

"In a one-mile stretch of Street Road that includes the intersection, there were 144 crashes in the two years leading up to the audit, and 170 people died or were injured," the report said.

Experts say this is due to volume, poor signage, dim lighting, aggressive drivers and other factors.

More than 36,000 vehicles travel on Street Road daily, the analysis said.

According to data from the National Safety Council, 2016 was the deadliest year on American roads in nearly a decade, with more than 40,200 Americans dying in motor vehicle crashes. It is also estimated that 4.6 million Americans were injured in motor vehicle accidents in that same time period.
