BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A Bensalem Township School Board committee will hold a special community meeting on Tuesday night to discuss its budget deficit and search for a new schools superintendent.
The school board's Public Relations and Community Outreach Committee will hold the community meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Bensalem High School in the A Wing.
The committee will discuss the $2.7 million deficit in the 2026-2027 school budget, which the school board will vote on at its meeting on June 29.
The committee will also discuss the search to replace longtime Schools Superintendent Samuel Lee, who resigned in the wake of the school district's "severe financial crisis."
Lee has been replaced by Interim Schools Superintendent Victoria Velazquez.
The school board appointed her as the interim schools superintendent, thrusting her into the spotlight of a school district struggling to reduce a 2026-2027 school budget and a deficit of $15-16 million.
In her first meeting in her new post, the Bensalem School Board approved eliminating 31 teacher, administrative, and staffing positions.
School board members are encouraging the public to come to the meeting on Tuesday to hear about the process and community involvement opportunities.
