BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — The Bensalem Township School District is seeking candidates for its next schools superintendent.
And in the spirit of transparency, the school board is seeking community input and is setting up a meeting on Monday about the superintendent search. See the flyer below
School officials said they are soliciting feedback from students, staff, and community members using a survey to gather information on the traits, characteristics, and priorities stakeholders are seeking in their next superintendent to replace longtime leader Samuel Lee.
Lee — who had received a new four-year contract last year — stepped down in March after reports that the school district has a "severe financial situation."
He has been replaced by interim Schools Superintendent Victoria Velazquez.
In her first meeting in her new post, the Bensalem School Board approved eliminating 31 teacher, administrative, and staffing positions.
The survey data will be used by the school board to help create interview questions and to aid in distinguishing candidates that meet the identified qualifications.
The survey is open through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, June 8.

School Director Karen Winters is chairing the superintendent search committee.
At its April 14 meeting, the Bensalem Township School Board voted to retain the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (Bucks IU) to facilitate the search process for the district's next superintendent.
School officials said the Bucks IU is an experienced provider of superintendent and education executive search services and will support the board by developing interview protocols, assisting with logistics, and facilitating the interview process.
The members of the board retain sole responsibility for determining which candidates advance through each stage of the process and for selecting the district’s next superintendent.
