Parx Racing Rider Left With 'Catastrophic' Injuries

A GoFundMe page was launched to raise money to support the long recovery of rider Hector Cotto.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A Parx Racing thoroughbred exercise rider suffered "catastrophic injuries" during an incident over the past weekend and now the community is rallying around him.

On the morning of May 30, 26-year-old thoroughbred exercise rider Hector Cotto was injured when a loose horse collided with him and his mount.

Cotto is now in critical condition and facing a long road to recovery, said Whitney Reid, who has launched a fundraiser supporting him.

"Hector faces a long, difficult, and uncertain road to recovery," Reid said. "The coming weeks and months will bring extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and many challenges for Hector and his family."

Reid said that Cotto is a "hardworking, dedicated horseman" whose passion for racing and unwavering commitment to the horses he rides have earned him the admiration and respect of his colleagues, friends, and the entire racing community.

Those who know Cotto know his strength, kindness, and tireless work ethic, Reid said.

During this incredibly difficult time, we are asking for your support to help ease the financial burden on Cotto and his family.

Funds raised will assist with medical expenses, rehabilitation and recovery costs, post-hospital care, and travel expenses for his parents as they make the journey from Puerto Rico to be by his side throughout his recovery.
