BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — Bucks County Bridge No. 286 now has a new name.
Bucks County and Bensalem Township officials gathered on Tuesday to dedicate the bridge renaming to honor the life and sacrifice of Corp. John Michael Lyons.
"I am extremely proud that Bensalem continues to recognize those who gave everything in defense of our country," said Bensalem Township Council President Ed Tokmajian, one of the speakers at the ceremony.
Tokmajian spoke about the bridge becoming a permanent reminder of Corp. Lyons' service, sacrifice, and the gratitude of the Bensalem community that will never forget.
The county held the ceremony on Tuesday to honor Lyons, who was killed in action during the Vietnam War.
The bridge is located over Poquessing Creek along Red Lion Lane in the township's Andalusia section.
Since 2022, Bucks County’s Memorial Bridge Program has dedicated more than 20 county-owned bridges in memory of local soldiers lost in the Vietnam War.
Administered in partnership with the Pennsylvania Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (PAVVMF), the program was established to honor the 136 Bucks County residents lost in the war.
