BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — Residents are expressing excitement over another major supermarket chain possibly coming to Lower Bucks County.
With Bensalem Township officials and residents seeking a Trader Joe's and Sprouts Farmers Market also planning its first Bucks County location, another chain may be coming to the township.
Whole Food Market has reportedly signed a lease for a new store at the closed Neshaminy Mall as part of the property's makeover and redevelopment, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The grocery store would be built from the ground up to anchor the shuttered Neshaminy Mall's revitalization as a mixed-use development, the Business Journal stated.
The mall closed this past weekend after 58 years of operation.
Whole Foods Market has locations in Doylestown Township off Route 611, and three eastern Montgomery locations in Jenkintown, Spring House and Plymouth Meeting.
Bensalem Township Councilman Joseph Wentzel Jr. called the Journal's report a "very interesting read."
Bensalem Council President Ed Tokmajian told Patch on Monday that he has "conveyed to the developer about what they are hearing on social media."
He said that the township has yet to receive redevelopment plans for the over 100-acre mall property.
The council president also said that developers don't usually confirm the actual retailers.
Yardley Neighbors posted on its Facebook page its excitement over the possible arrival of a Whole Foods Market.
"For those of us in Falls Township, Middletown Township, Yardley and surrounding areas, this could be a great addition," Yardley Neighbors posted. "Right now, many of us have to travel to Princeton or Jenkintown for Whole Foods. Having one right here in Lower Bucks would certainly be convenient."
Tokmajian told Patch last week that a Sprouts will be sprouting up next year on Street Road.
"Bensalem Residents, Let's Bring Trader Joe's to Our Community," the township posted on Facebook on Tuesday. "We're lobbying to bring Trader Joe's to Bensalem Township, and we need your support!"
Township officials are asking residents to click the link here to let Trader Joe's that they are wanted.
