Bensalem Man Arrested In Deadly Hit-And-Run

The 21-year-old was speeding and driving with a suspended license when he struck another Bensalem man around 2:30 a.m. Monday, police say.

BENSALEM, PA — A Bensalem man has been arrested on charges he killed a pedestrian in an early-morning crash, then left the scene.

Richard McCausland, 21, is charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, causing a deadly accident while not properly licensed and speeding during a deadly accident. He is accused in the death of Timothy McGuire, 38, also of Bensalem.

Police were called at 6 a.m. Monday to the scene of the crash, at Hulmeville Road near the intersection with Kings Avenue. A passerby spotted McGuire's body alongside the roadway after the hit-and-run, which police say happened at about 2:30 a.m.

They put out an alert Monday afternoon for a damaged, green Kia Soul and, acting on tips from the public, tracked it to an address in Bensalem. By Monday night, they had tracked down and arrested McCausland, who they say was driving the Kia over the speed limit at the time McGuire was hit.

McCausland also had a suspended driver's license, police said.

He was arraigned late Monday in district court and sent to Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10% of $500,000 bail.
