Bensalem Man Charged With Murder In Hit-And-Run

Police say the driver was going about 72 mph in a 40 mph zone when he struck and killed a 71-year-old man crossing the street.

BENSALEM, PA — A man from Bensalem has been charged with murder in the November hit-and-run crash that killed a 71-year-old pedestrian.

John R. Bik, 53, of Woodland Drive, was arraigned Friday on counts of third-degree murder and other charges in the death of James Ogborn. The Nov. 30 collision happened in Middletown.

According to police, Bik's Ford F-150 struck Ogborn just after 7:30 p.m. while traveling westbound on E. Lincoln Highway near the Lincoln Plaza Shopping Center. Ogborn, who was crossing the street when he was hit, died at St. Mary Medical Center after being taken there by ambulance.

According to police, travel data retrieved from the truck's computer showed it was going about 72 mph near the site of the crash before the driver hit the brakes hard. The posted speed limit in the area was 40 mph.

Witnesses told police that Bik's truck swerved prior to impact, left the scene after the crash and stopped at a red light before it was driven away.

The crash was investigated by Middletown Township Police. District Judge John J. Kelly, Jr. set bail for Bik at $75,000.
