Bensalem Mayor Proclaims May 7 as Rita's Water Ice Day

In honor of its 30 anniversary, Bensalem Mayor Joe DiGirolamo issued a proclamation making May 7 Rita's Italian Ice Day.

Rita’s Italian Ice celebrated 30 years in business at its original location in Bensalem during an event Wednesday.

Rita’s opened in 1984 at 1227 Bristol Pike. Since then, the franchise has gone on to open 600 stores in the United States. Its first international locations are now open in China and stores in Canada and the Philippines are opening soon.

During the celebration, Bensalem Mayor Joe DiGirolamo issued a proclamation making May 7 Rita's Italian Ice Day.

The first 30 guests in line won a birthday prize pack and a cup of Rita's wild berry Italian ice. 

"This is a very historic day for Rita's," said Rita’s CEO Jeff Moody.  "We couldn't have had the success of the past 30 years without those who care just as much about this brand as we do," Moody said.  "Thank you all for making Rita's part of your community for 30 happy years and here's to the next 30."
