Bensalem Woman Helps Save Bristol Man's Baby In Philadelphia: Report

Officials say a Bristol man threatened the baby's mother and the woman who tried to help as he held the child over a Philadelphia overpass.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A Bucks County woman intervened when a man threatened to throw his baby off an Interstate 95 overpass in Philadelphia, even when he said he would shoot her, a report said.

The man, 35-year-old Raheem Murphy of Bristol, faces 11 charges including kidnapping, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment, court records show.

Murphy is accused of threatening the baby's mother as well, and driving her and the child to I-95 against their will before getting out and threatening to throw the child off the overpass, reports said. Officials say he also assaulted a Pennsylvania state trooper, according to reports from FOX29 and 6ABC.

Christine King of Bensalem told 6ABC she "couldn't just pass" when she saw Murphy, and pulled over without much thought.

King told 6ABC she got out of her car and put her hand around the child to try and pull it from Murphy. He told her to let go or he would shoot her, the report said.

The baby's mother was able to get the gun out of Murphy's pocket, King said. They both tried to talk to him until officers arrived to take the child, 6ABC reported.

Murphy's next court appearance is August 1, court records show. A public defender is representing him.
