Construction Worker Falls 40 Feet Off Route 1 Bridge: FD

The Nottingham Fire Department said the worker fell Thursday morning off a bridge that's part of the Route 1 project in Bensalem Township.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —A construction worker fell 40 feet off a bridge he was working on as part of the Route 1 Improvements Project early Thursday morning, fire officials said.

The Nottingham Fire Department said construction crews were operating within the Route 1 construction zone in the area of Bristol Road for overnight work on the project.

Fire officials said the construction worker fell about 40 feet off a bridge while working. The fire department did not report anything regarding injuries.

The worker was reported to be awake and talking to the crews that ascended down the embankment to him, fire officials said.

The fire department's BC222, Rescue 4, Ladder 65, Rescue 9, Rescue 8, Tower 8, and Medic 186 are all on the scene, the fire department reported in a Facebook post.

The fire department advises motorists to use extra caution while driving through the Route 1 corridor Thursday morning.

Bensalem Fire Rescue said that fire and rescue crews responded at 3:45 a.m. Thursday were dispatched to Route 1 in the area of Bristol Road for a technical rescue.

Crews from L65 and M186 gained access to the patient and began medical care and packaging of the patient. The worker was transported by Bensalem EMS to a local hospital.

It took about 40 minutes to complete the rescue and southbound Route 1 was closed for nearly an hour.
