Flower Girl Represents Bensalem at Flower Show

The Philadelphia International Flower Show is the largest indoor floral exhibition in the world. The theme for the 2011 show is "Springtime in Paris." A single florist represented Bensalem at this year's event – Street Road's Flower Girl Florist.

Flower Girl Florist has been cutting, drying, designing and selling floral arrangements in Bensalem since 1992.  The shop’s owner, Karen Leach, started the business nearly 20 years ago after watching her father work at his own florist shop while growing up.  Not only does the shop deliver gifts and floral arrangements for all occasions throughout the Bensalem community, it ships gifts and arrangements internationally.  Its work was recognized on a world class platform this week.

Representing Bensalem on a Global Stage

Tony, a floral designer, has been working at Flower Girl Florist for about 18 years, almost since as long as the shop has been open.

“The first 10 years we went to the Philadelphia International Flower Show we did the Teleflora exhibit,” Tony shared.  “This year we were showcased at the flower show.  We were given an eight foot circle, flowers, containers and props to use to create an arrangement that will remain on display at the Philadelphia International Flower Show until the exhibition closes on Sunday, March 13.”

Tony continued, “Our floral arrangement theme at the flower show was “Instant Delight.”  Bensalem residents who trek down to the Pennsylvania Convention Center at 12th and Arch Streets before the event closes on Sunday can check out Flower Girl Florist’s showcased arrangement.  Someone from the florist shop travels to the convention center daily to freshen and care for the arrangement so it remains healthy throughout the exhibition.

Paris in Philadelphia

Individuals, families and groups are welcomed to visit the Philadelphia International Flower Show.  Over 150 free gardening presentations are on display.  The bucolic park scene is one of the first arrangements guests see when they enter the show.  Lilacs, roses, lavender and trees bursting into bloom fill the park with an array of colors.  Live entertainment is on display throughout the entire exhibition.  Guests also get to dine on fine cuisine prepared by world class chefs and sip on red wine at the food and wine attractions.

When asked about his thoughts surrounding this year’s event, Tony said, “Normally landscapers and large floral businesses are showcased at the flower show.  This year a man who once worked for Disney organized the event.  There is a different theme each night at the show.  Area restaurants are giving away discounts to flower show guests who bring copies of their admittance tickets with them when they visit their restaurants.”  Tony also let on that, “Patti Labelle was at the show on Thursday night.  Bette Midler is expected to be there on Friday.”  When asked if the entertainers were singing at the flower show, Tony said, “No.  They are just coming out to enjoy the show.”

Making Bensalem Feel Proud

Bensalem can feel proud.  Our own Flower Girl Florist created a spectacular floral arrangement at the world’s largest indoor exhibition.  They left people in awe, just as they do each time a customer walks into their shop on Street Road or calls them up on the telephone and orders a personal arrangement.

The Philadelphia International Flower Show runs from Sunday, March 6 through Sunday, March 13.  The Friday, March 11 show is open from 10 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.  Saturday’s show starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m.  The Sunday, March 13 show runs from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. The Philadelphia International Flower Show is online at - www.theflowershow.com/home/index.html.

Bensalem’s Flower Girl Florist is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.  The shop is closed on Sundays.  They are online at - www.flowergirlflorist.com.  Testament to Flower Girl Florist’s dedication to customer satisfaction is the fact that the majority of their customers are repeat visitors.  Arrangements for all life events can be ordered through the florist.  As Tony said, “Flowers are great for any occasion.”
