BENSALEM, PA — Bensalem residents who think they might ever be in position to treat an overdose can now get free Narcan at the police department.

Residents may walk in to the department, at 2400 Byberry Rd., on Monday-Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. There is a limit of one unit of Narcan per household. The offer is good while supplies last.

Residents will meet with the front-desk communications officer to get information on what Narcan is and how to use it. They can also get handouts about local drug and alcohol treatment resources and recovery-support services.

They can also view an online instructional video about using Narcan.

Narcan, generic name Naloxone, is an anti-opioid. In some overdose cases, multiple applications are needed to revive an overdose sufferer.

Naloxone is only considered a temporary remedy for an opioid overdose, and medical attention should still be sought even after it is administered.
