BENSALEM, PA — Feel like getting your hands in some soil? Applications are now open to get plots at the 2019 Community Garden in Bensalem.

This year's garden will open on Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m.

The garden, located next to Bensalem Community Park at 4301 Richlieu Rd., opened for the first time in 2017.

It's designed to give residents a better appreciation of nature and an opportunity to grow their own healthy food while promoting recreation and a social outlet.

What started as 30 plots at the garden has been expanded to 60, Bensalem officials say.

More than 200 entries were received when the program was launched and plot winners are selected at random.

Applications for 2019 can be found online here.

Completed forms, along with payment, can be returned by mailing them to the attention of Amanda McDonald, c/o Bensalem Community Garden, 2400 Byberry Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020 or by hand-delivering to the same address and attention. The deadline is April 15.

Plot winners will be selected and notified shortly thereafter, officials say.

The cost for a first year plot is $50 and $25 each year thereafter. Payment can be made by cash (in-person only), check, or money order made payable to Bensalem Township.
