LA Fitness Reopens In Bensalem After Chlorine Exposure Report

The fitness center was evacuated Wednesday and five people were treated. Bensalem Fire Rescue said air-monitoring tests were negative.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —LA Fitness reopened Thursday after being evacuated the day before due to a report of chlorine exposure in which two people were taken to the hospital and three others were treated at the scene, fire officials said.

Bensalem Fire Rescue said fire crews responded to LA Fitness at 500 Rockhill Dr. late Wednesday afternoon for a report of possible chlorine exposure in the pool area.

Arriving crews stated that the building was being evacuated and two people were being treated by EMS after being exposed to chlorine and fumes in the pool and locker room of the fitness center, Bensalem Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.

Air-monitoring tests were performed and a contractor on site stated that there was a problem with the pool filter, which caused the issue, Bensalem Fire Rescue said.

All air monitoring readings were negative. But authorities closed the fitness center for the rest of the day out of caution, fire officials said.

A worker who answered the phone at LA Fitness Thursday afternoon said the business had reopened.

EMS transported two people to a local hospital and three others were treated onsite by EMS, Bensalem Fire Rescue said.
