Lanes To Close On U.S. 1, Street Road Next Week

The lane closures for construction will be in both directions and will start on Monday night.

BENSALEM, PA — Left lanes will be closed overnight on U.S. 1 and Street Road next week as crews work to remove a median barrier and curb as part of ongoing construction there.

The lane closures will be in both directions and will be from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, through Saturday, Jan. 12. The work locations are:

  • U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway and Rockhill Drive
  • Rt. 132 (Street Road) between Kingston Way and Old Lincoln Highway

The work is part of efforts to rebuild, widen and improve a 1.3-mile stretch of U.S. 1 in Bensalem.

PennDOT advises drivers to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays are expected. All scheduled work is subject to change due to weather.

The Bensalem work is part of a larger project to rebuild and widen U.S. 1, replace aging bridges and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section from Philadelphia to just north of Rt. 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown and Langhorne.

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the project, which has a total price tag of $97,352,764. It's being financed with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent from the state.
All work on the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, Gov. Tom Wolf's office said.
