Local fencing group brings historical, multicultural demonstrations and Free Lessons to the 17th Village Faire Sept 17 & 18

Bensalem's Steele Cavaliers show off their expertise and offer free lessons during Bucks County's Village Renaissance Faire

Local fencing group brings historical, multicultural demonstrations as well as Free Lessons at the 17th Village Faire Sept 17 & 18.

En gaurd one & all for FREE one weekend at the Village Renaissance Faire. The ultimate family renaissance faire expands its instructional offerings of the arts, sports, and history with free instructional lessons of the sportsman and fighting arts demonstrated by the Steele Cavaliers. After strolling though the living history pavilions or interactive Kids Kingdom, the Steele Cavaliers provide fencing demonstrations for all, with a wide range of activites from live exhibitions of the high fighting arts to foam lessons for the young. The Steele Cavaliersare led by Robert "Bob" Borton, Bensalem/Trevose and Tara Spiecker. Between the Faire's many shows from jousting to birds of prey, aerialists to fire breathers, gameshows to pirates, as well as puppets, marionettes, story-times, and song, music, and dance for all, a historical walk through living history is well worth the distration.

At the Faire, Bob uses his ingenuity and grace to allow attendees to explore their appreciative and creative sides. The show lists will expose all to glamour, art, and lessons in Italian Fencing, Single Sword, Double Sword, Sword & Dagger (staff only), Sword & Cloak, and Spanish Circle, as well as foam lessons and contests for the young ones so they too can try their hand at fencing, safely for all. His vision has also created the Kingdom Quest where attendees explore the many offerings of the faire, learn some lessons and earn laughs along the way to earning the ability to be instructed by a knight and knighted themselves before the final royal joust.

Bob is a humble man who attributes a great deal to his partners and the members of his group. One of the most intriguing, is Tara Spiecker who has been with the faire since she herself was a wee one and has now brought that energy, excitement and offerings to countless others over the years. Tara is a former resident of Newtown who graduated through the Council Rock School District, and she has enjoyed seeing the Wrightstown Renaissance faire grow ever since she was present at the very first one back in 2000. Although she has since moved to Fort Washington, PA, she still considers the Wrightstown faire her "hometown renaissance faire." She has been participating in combat demonstrations at Wrightstown for the past few years. She recently helped bring two medieval/renaissance re-creation groups, the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and the Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia "Markland" together for a collaborative encampment featuring combat and other period activities such as medieval arts, crafts, and games. Look for Tara (going by the renaissance persona name "Violante") either in the joint SCA/Markland encampment or in the fencing lists.
