'Loud Bang' Investigated In Bensalem Township

Bensalem Police were made aware of numerous social media reports about a loud sound on Sunday night. They discovered the cause.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — That loud bang residents may have heard on Sunday night was nothing to fear, police said.

Bensalem Police said they were made aware of numerous social media reports about a "loud bang" heard around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

While the police department did not receive any calls from residents, police officers conducted a brief investigation to identify a possible source.

That source turned out to be the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst conducting heavy weapons training, which included live mortar and howitzer fire.

"This activity is a likely source of the noise reported in our area," police said.

Officers did not locate any related incidents within the township, and there is no cause for concern at this time.
