BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The Bensalem Township Senior Center now has a new memorial garden.

Matthew Pienkowski, a Boy Scout Troop 11 member, and his fellow Bensalem/Levittown troop members created the garden at the Bensalem Township Senior Center Building.

Pienkowski and his team attended a board meeting at the senior center recently and heard the seniors were looking for an area at the center where a memorial garden could be constructed.

Township officials said that the seniors could not have been more enthusiastic about the endeavor.

Pienkowski and a few of his school friends and troop mates were able to perform the work throughout three weekends.

There were months of planning and paperwork that proceeded the actual physical labor, township officials said.

Cliff Greer of Realty Landscape was instrumental in donating much of the materials, but also in explaining to Matt the steps he would need to take to lay the brick, officials said.

"He couldn’t have done this without his dad too, who was there with Matt every step of the way," township officials said.
