Mother Caught Nurse Abusing Young Son In Bensalem Home: Police

During one incident, the nurse removed a breathing tube and did not reinsert it, causing the child to struggle to breathe, police said.

BENSALEM, PA — The mother of a young boy who police said was abused by a home health nurse in Bensalem caught her using surveillance video, police said.

The nurse, Cindy Desser, 57, of Jamison, has been charged with endangering the welfare of children.

Police said the young child, who was described as medically fragile, received at-home visits from Desser.

The mother found multiple video recordings from home surveillance capturing abuse on numerous ocassions, according to authorities.

In the videos, Desser is seen throwing the child within the crib, striking the child, and sleeping during her shift, police said.

During one incident, Desser removed the child's tracheostomy tube and did not immediately reinsert it, causing the child to struggle to breathe, according to officials.

The child was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for treatment.

Desser was arrested in Warwick Township on March 25. Bail was set at $2 million and she was booked at Bucks County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
