Multiple-Vehicle Crash With Injuries On PA Turnpike

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Ten vehicles were involved in a crash around the Philadelphia Route 1 exit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike early Thursday morning, authorities said.

The Nottingham Fire Department said that the accident, which happened around 6 a.m. Thursday, was on both westbound and eastbound of the Philadelphia Exit for Route 1 in Bensalem.

Action News 6 reported that the accident involved 10 vehicles and caused major delays. The news agency said the wreck involved several tractor-trailers and a concrete barrier was damaged.

The crash remains under investigation.

KYW News Radio reported on the radio that the crash involved a tractor-trailer that struck a center barrier and spilled debris everywhere. The radio reported backups between 4 and 8 miles in both directions.

Fire officials said the crash involved several vehicles on both sides of the road and that Engine 65, Rescue 4, and Rescue 2 were at the scene, checking on entrapment and injuries.

Several medic units have also been dispatched, fire officials said.

Emergency Alerts of Southeastern Pennsylvania reported the crash was by mile marker No. 350.1. It said that units from Montgomery County were also responding to the scene.
