National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrated In Bensalem Schools

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Bensalem schools are celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with a host of activities recognizing the presence and influence of the Hispanic culture.

In his report at last week's school board meeting, Superintendent Samuel Lee said Snyder Middle School students participate in daily trivia questions and are learning fun and interesting facts about Hispanic culture and accomplishments.

Meanwhile, at Robert K. Shafer Middle School, students designed a mural.

  • The Valley Elementary School Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team had its kickoff assembly. Team members used riddles and games to review Valley’s school‐wide expectations: “Be Respectful,” “Be Responsible,” “Be Safe,” “Be Kind,” and the newest expectation, “Be Your Best Valley Dragon!”
  • On Sept. 9, Struble Elementary School had its first Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports activity to honor America. Each student and staff member received an American flag to plant at the main entrance. Grade levels did age-appropriate activities to honor 9/11.
  • Benjamin Rush Elementary School kicked off the school year with its annual Back to School Picnic sponsored by the Positive Behavioral Interventions Support team. The event welcomed new and returning students and parents and shared the school’s behavior expectations.
  • Belmont Hills Elementary School debuted a playground communication board. The project was led by Belmont’s Speech‐Language Pathologist Jessica Shragher. The board was created to grant greater access to communication for all students.
  • Snyder Middle School’s pre‐engineering and STEM class learned about electricity and how
    conductors work. They used the knowledge to design their own game controllers for the Makey.
  • The English Learners at Cornwells Elementary School were busy working with the new ELA curriculum. Students are diving into My View and My Perspectives with enthusiasm and discussing and dissecting the stories with a focus on vocabulary and writing.
  • At Faust Elementary School, kindergarteners with a different color discussed each day. Kindergarteners wear that color for the day with the entire school asked to do the same.
