This Is Pennsylvania's Best Italian Restaurant, New Ranking Says

Like Italian food? Then head to this nearby spot. It's the best in the state, one popular food website says.

Popular food website The Daily Meal has compiled a definitive list of the best Italian restaurants in every state. In Pennsylvania, Vetri made the grade. The Daily Meal calls Vetri, a renowned restaurant that has earned numerous awards, a "jewel box of a place."

To assemble its list, the Daily Meal looked at various “best of” lists, reviews from local publications across the country, as well as restaurants that have big local followings. Chain establishments weren’t considered.

Chef Marc Vetri and his business partner, Jeff Benjamin, opened Vetri in 1998 in a historic Philadelphia townhouse that was once home to Le Bec-Fin. According to the Daily Meal Vetri's food is prepared with "precision and grace," and dishes are served with wines from a 2,500-bottle cellar.

Vetri and its chefs aren't new to culinary accolades. The restaurant was a James Beard Foundation Outstanding Restaurant Semifinalist in 2010, and Vetri himself was an Outstanding Chef Semifinalist 2008-2011, 2013 and 2016.

Why The Daily Meal loves Vetri:

"Chef Marc Vetri (who sold his restaurant group to Urban Outfitters in 2015 but retains ownership of this place) offers diners sophisticated, hand-crafted Italian and Italianate specialties, served only in the form of multi-course tasting menus. Available items are listed under Antipasti, Pasta, Secondi, and Dolce (dessert); chef de cuisine Joe Delago will personalize the menu to your taste." Read more.
