Rising Bensalem High Senior Adds To Accolades

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —A Bensalem High School rising senior continues to earn accolades.
Keira Seidman is participating in the prestigious Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) at Carnegie Mellon University.
The PGSS is a rigorous, five-week program that provides talented Pennsylvania rising high school seniors with enrichment experiences in the sciences and mathematics and encourages them to pursue careers in science and technology. It runs through Aug. 2.

Only 72 students statewide were accepted into this year’s program from among 403 applicants, Bensalem Township school officials said.

That's nothing new for Seidman.
Last November, the Bensalem Township School District announced that Seidman was the recipient of the Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education's Distinguished High School Student of the Year for 2022for her junior year.
Seidman was also an honoree at the YWCA Bucks County 30th Annual "Salute to Women Who Make a Difference" Gala.
She represented the teen award for “#GirlPower,” while 13 women were honored for Advocacy and Civic Engagement, Corporate and Social Responsibility, Media and Journalism, Women’s Empowerment, Racial and Social Justice, and Community Engagement.
While Seidman is attending the Governor’s School, she is living on campus in a Carnegie Mellon dormitory and taking specially designed lecture courses in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics.
In addition, she is participating in laboratory courses of their own choosing and engaging in team research projects. They also have opportunities to take elective courses, participate in field trips, attend special lectures and seminars, and interact with university faculty.
The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences, which is funded by a contract from the
PGSS Campaign, Inc., has been hosted by Carnegie Mellon University since 1982.
