Smarty Jones Day At Parx Racing Celebrates Kentucky Derby Win

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —It's the 20th anniversary of Smarty Jones Day on Saturday.

Parx Racing at Parx Casino at 3001 Street Rd. will host the free event to honor the legendary horse with festivities and a race card starting at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday.

The event is packed with family fun, DJ Tonic’s beats, food and beverage specials in the special celebration for the 20th anniversary of Smarty Jones winning the Kentucky Derby.

The champion Thoroughbred racehorse won the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and came second in the Belmont Stakes.

In early November 2003, the colt recovered from injuries and made his racing debut at the then called Philadelphia Park, now Parx Racing at Parx Casino.

The first post is at 12:40 p.m. There will be a live broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia from 3-5 p.m.
