Southbound Route 1 Overpass Construction Underway
PennDOT said work continues this week on the Route 1 project in Bensalem and Middletown townships. Motorists may face 15-minute stoppages.

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —Motorists should expect periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes as work on the new southbound Route 1 overpass continues this week, PennDOT said.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said the construction is scheduled this week on Route 1 and Old Lincoln Highway in Bensalem and Middletown townships under a project to reconstruct, widen, and improve Route 1.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

- Monday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., northbound Route 1 will be reduced to a single lane between Street Road and the Neshaminy exits for the installation of an impact attenuator.
- Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes will take place on southbound Old Lincoln Highway for beam setting on the new southbound U.S.1 overpass.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent and subject to change.
PennDOT is reconstructing and widening Route 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing new bridges from the Turnpike Interchange in Bensalem Township to north of the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 in Middletown Township under the $113.5 million Section RC2 contract.

In other construction news for both townships:
A lane closure is expected Monday, Aug. 28, through Thursday, Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Highland Avenue between Avenue F and Hulmeville Road in Middletown Township for saw cutting.
Meanwhile, digital message sign improvements are also scheduled at night on Interstate 95 in Bensalem Township.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, Aug. 28, through Thursday, Aug. 31, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a left lane closure will be in place on southbound I-95 between Route 132 (Street Road) and the Route 63 (Woodhaven Road) interchanges in Bensalem Township.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.
The DMS work is part of a $24.1 million project to upgrade and improve Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components across the Philadelphia region.
The ITS equipment will be used by PennDOT’s Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) to monitor travel conditions and provide motorists with real-time information about area highways.
