Tawanka Elementary School Raises Money During Autism Awareness Month
Local elementary school raised over $1,000 to support an organization serving children with autism.

Feastersville Trevose, PA—Shelby Rothman and Sarah King both work as Autistic Support Teachers at Tawanka Elementary School and this year they rallied their school to raise over $1,000 in funding for a local organization serving students with autism. As a way to acknowledge April as Autism Awareness Month, the teachers worked with students and staff to design t-shirts with the theme of "LOVE."
Through an organized and concerted effort of t-shirt sale fundraising, interactive bulletin boards, grade level question and answer sessions, classroom lessons and activities, the team was able to achieve their goal! Ms. Rothman stated, "Our theme this year is LOVE. We are spreading our love at Tawanka! We raised $1,040 through t-shirt sales which we donated to the foundation Puzzle Pieces Squared (https://puzzlepiecessquared.org/.)" All week the students and staff participated in spirit week, wearing different themed clothes representing diversity. On Friday, April 21st, students and staff wore the LOVE shirt they designed and sold and took a photo together. This is Tawanka's 3rd year of creating activities and t-shirt designs to sell and then donate to an organization serving persons who are neurodivergent. Principal Donald Palmer commented, "I am so proud of our Tawanka students and staff for coming together each year to raise awareness and money to support another great organization."
