Tax Increase Is Part Of Proposed Bensalem Schools Budget: Report

Multiple changes could be made to the spending plan before the Bensalem Township School Board votes on it in June.

BENSALEM, PA — A proposed budget for the Bensalem Township School District includes a 3.64% property tax increase.

The Intelligencer reports that a draft of the district's 2019-20 budget does not cut any programs. The school board has approved the preliminary, $156 million budget, but changes could be made between now and its final approval.

District officials say the tax hike may not make the final cut or may be smaller, the Intelligencer reported. The final vote is tentatively scheduled for June 12.

The paper reports there are multiple items being discussed that could impact the budget. They include eliminating some administrative positions, establishing the district's own cyber school, outsourcing some services, closing the pool at Robert K. Shafer Middle School and generating more revenue by establishing an in-hose daycare center for employees.

The next budget workshop meeting is scheduled for March 13.
