Unhinged Boat Closes Route 1 Northbound Lanes: FD

A boat clogged traffic Tuesday evening near Neshaminy Mall, the Trevose Fire Company said. A car fire was on southbound Route 1 overnight.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —It's not something you see every day driving on a highway, but there was a boat unhinged on Route 1 during the Tuesday evening rush hour.

The boat clogged and closed several northbound lanes around 5 p.m. in the construction zone of the Route 1 Improvements Project being performed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The Trevose Fire Company posted on Facebook alerting motorists to avoid Route 1 in both directions near the Neshaminy Mall and Neshaminy Creek in Middletown Township.

"Traffic is backed up like crazy," the fire company said. "That's an expensive oops."

Levittown Now reported that traffic was directed off Route 1 at the Penndel interchange and was backed up into Bensalem Township.

Police from Bensalem and Middletown townships were on the scene. A PennDOT truck was also at the scene, the report stated.

No information was available for why the boat became unhinged.

Meanwhile, the fire company responded to an auto extrication with fire on southbound Route 1 overnight along with Parkland Fire Company, Penndel Volunteer Fire Company #1, Station 8.

The fire company said no injuries were reported.
