Veterans Honored During Ceremonies At Bensalem Township Schools

With schools closed Friday, Bensalem Township students honored those who served with special Veterans Day assemblies Thursday.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —With schools closed Friday for Veterans Day, several schools in the Bensalem School District held ceremonies the day before to recognize veterans for their service to the country.

These were some of Thursday's Veterans Day services:

The Robert K. Shafer Middle School hosted a Veterans Day assembly for 7th-and-8th-grade students.

The assembly opened with the presentation of the American flag by the Bensalem High School - Marine Corps JROTC cadets and the eighth-grade chorus singing the National Anthem.

Guest speakers included Harold Piper, former Shafer PCA, (US Army); Col. John Church, USMCR (Ret.), Leadership Studies Department - Senior Marine Instructor; Sgt. Patrick M. Keaveney, grandfather to Shafer student Aiden Frank, (Marines), and Butch Oberlander, uncle to Shafer secretary Tina Kondratiuk, (US Army).

At Benjamin Rush Elementary, 6th graders wrote letters of thanks to veterans. During library, kindergarten students learned about Veterans Day and made thank-you cards. The letters will be given to soldiers at the USO-Philadelphia.

At the Cecelia Snyder Middle School, the Student Council provided breakfast for invited veterans followed by an assembly for eighth-grade students.

The Bensalem High School - Marine Corps JROTC presented the colors with opening remarks by Snyder staff. BHS Head Marine Instructor Col. John Church, USMCR was the keynote speaker.
