Bensalem Official Discusses 287(g) Program On 'The Daily Show'

Bensalem Director of Public Safety​ Fred Harran discussed the controversial ​287(g) program on 'The Daily Show' Thursday night.

Bensalem Director of Public Safety Fred Harran made an appearance on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" on Thursday night.

Harran was interviewed by correspondent Roy Wood Jr. in regards to the controversial 287(g) program, which allows police officers to conduct federal immigration checks on residents who are suspected to be illegally living in the country.

Harran is a supporter of the program, which he says helps local law enforcement "put people in jail."

Some residents have been critical of his support of the program, which is touted by President Donald Trump.

In January, residents staged a protest outside the Bensalem Township Council meeting to voice their opposition to the program. An online petition was also circulated. In May, it was decided Bensalem would not participate in the program.
