99-year-old Harcum College Alumna Publishes Memoir about Marriage to J. Paul Getty

Teddy Getty Gaston '29, recipient of the Harcum College Alumni Association's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007, recently published a memoir of her life with her first husband, billionaire J. Paul Getty.

"Alone Together," written by Gaston with Digby Diehl and published by Ecco/HarperCollins Publishers, is a personal portrait of Gaston's life as J. Paul Getty's fifth and last wife, which reviewer Judith Newman in the August 30, 2013 New York Times said is "a blueprint for living peacefully with a brilliant and monstrously selfish man."

The book details their life together, from their first meeting in 1935, when Gaston was a Broadway and night club singer, until their divorce in 1958. After she and Getty divorced, she married William Gaston of the Boston law firm, Gaston, Snow, Peabody and Saltonstall. Their daughter, Gigi Gaston, was a member of the U. S. Olympic Equestrian team and is now an independent film producer, screenwriter, and director.

Teddy Gaston also coauthored The Mark of the Eagle, a romantic adventure novel.  She lives in Venice, CA.
