Alexander Klein Begins Term as Harcum College Board Chair
A member of Philadelphia's Klein Family renews their historic ties with Harcum College.

Bryn Mawr, PA (July 2, 2018) – Alexander Klein of Philadelphia has been elected Chair of the Harcum College Board of Trustees effective July 1, 2018. For the first time since 1995 a member of the Klein family will lead the Board, and Alexander Klein will be the third member of the family to serve as Board Chair as well as the fourth to serve as a Trustee.
Harcum College, co-founded by Edith Hatcher Harcum in 1915 was purchased by The Junto, an educational association headed by Alexander Klein’s grandfather Philip Klein in 1952. Philip Klein became President of Harcum and later served as Board Chair until his death in 1982. His son Arthur became Board Chair in that year and served until 1995. Arthur Klein passed away in 2007. In that same year Arthur’s son Alexander Klein joined the Board.
There are additional family connections as Board Secretary Louise Strauss is Alexander Klein’s cousin. Louise's mother Ione Strauss is a cousin of Arthur Klein. Louise's late father Hilary also served as Harcum Board Chair.

“As Harcum continues to grow and provide outstanding career-focused education for men and women, we have been fortunate to have an individual on our Board who so thoroughly understands and values Harcum’s mission and values, and will now bring that understanding to his task of leading our Board as Harcum expands programs at its Bryn Mawr Campus and throughout the region.”

The Klein family is noted for its civic engagement and philanthropy in Philadelphia. Philip, Arthur, and Henry Klein served in many key roles at Harcum for over half a century. Henry Klein was Harcum’s first Director of Development and Public Relations, a Dean of Admissions, and in 1982, Interim President.
Alexander Klein is Senior Supply Chain Solutions Manager for APL Logistics and lives in Philadelphia with his wife Joanne and son Ben.
