For Nursing major Devon DiCampli, Class of 2026, that's exactly what her Harcum experience has been about.
Drawn to Harcum for its respected nursing program and supportive learning environment, Devon found more than a college education.
She found a community that helped her get ready for a career in healthcare while also helping her grow personally and professionally.
Throughout her time at Harcum, Devon balanced demanding coursework, clinical rotations, personal responsibilities, and health challenges. Through it all, she remained focused on her goal of becoming a compassionate and skilled nurse.
She credits Harcum's close-knit atmosphere and dedicated faculty with helping her navigate even the most difficult moments.
"The support from classmates, instructors, and clinical experiences helped me build confidence and stay motivated throughout the program," Devon shared.
That combination of support and hands-on learning became an important part of Devon's preparation for life after Harcum.
One of the most meaningful parts of her experience was participating in clinical rotations, where she could apply classroom knowledge to real patient-care situations. Those experiences reinforced why she chose nursing in the first place: to help others during challenging times.
Devon completed clinical rotations in a variety of healthcare settings, gaining experience caring for different patient populations. Her experiences included Chester Crozier Hospital, Paoli Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital, and Bryn Mawr Rehab.
"These rotations helped me strengthen my clinical skills, communication, teamwork, and confidence in patient care," she remarked.
Through these experiences, Devon became ready not only to provide care, but to communicate effectively, work as part of a healthcare team, stay organized, think critically, and advocate for her patients.
She says Harcum helped her develop the clinical knowledge and practical skills essential in today's healthcare field.
She is especially proud of the perseverance she demonstrated throughout nursing school and the determination she developed while overcoming obstacles along the way.
For Devon, getting Harcum ready has meant being prepared to take on whatever comes next.
Today, Devon is pursuing her career in nursing with plans to continue advancing in the healthcare field and eventually work in the operating room. She hopes to make a lasting impact on her patients and community through compassionate care.
Her advice to future Harcum students is simple but powerful:
"Stay organized, ask for help when needed, and never give up on yourself."
