Devon Horse Show, Bryn Mawr Hospital Continue Century-Long Partnership

TREDYFFRIN, PA -- The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair is celebrating its 120th anniversary with notable contributions to several community organizations. One of the most significant partners of the fair is Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Andrea Gilbert, President of Bryn Mawr Hospital, part of Main Line Health, kicked off this year’s opening of the fair in a recent speech.

“I want to thank and congratulate all who have worked incredibly hard to keep the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair a vital institution in our community, while preserving its rich history, for the past 120 years,” Gilbert said in a press release. “What began in 1896 with a dozen local gentlemen hoping to improve their stock of horses for their carriages, has become the largest outdoor horse show, and one of the largest volunteer-run fundraising efforts, in the country. Just as Bryn Mawr Hospital is defined by the staff, physicians and volunteers who strive each day to provide a superior experience, the volunteers are the backbone of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair. The spirit of community that each and every volunteer continually brings to this event is truly inspiring.”

Bryn Mawr Hospital’s longstanding relationship with the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair dates back to 1919, with gifts to the hospital totaling over $15 million in the last 97 years, according to a press release.

Most recently, the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair presented BMH with a donation of $500,000—the largest gift that Devon has ever presented to the hospital, and the second installment of a five-year, $2 million pledge to support the hospital’s Renovation and Modernization Project, officials said.
