Built for Carlo Borbone by Antonio Medrano, the Teatro San Carlo is among Europe's most beautiful opera houses and one of the most famous. A neoclassical jewel with an ornate gilded interior, the San Carlo was the first opera theater in the world; it was inaugurated on November 4, 1737. The facade was added in 1812 by Antonio Piccolini, who rebuilt the interior after a fire destroyed it in 1816. The theater hall, which holds 1,470 seats, is considered to have even better acoustics than Milan's famous La Scala, and such artists as Donizetti, Rossini, and Verdi produced and directed masterpieces here.

REPERTOIRE
Giuseppe Verdi: La Forza del Destino, Overture
Giuseppe Martucci: “La canzone dei ricordi”
Franz Schubert: The “Great” Symphony No. 9 in C Major
