On Sunday, May 5, 2013, ElderNet, a 501 c 3 local non-profit organization, will host its annual Spring Fundraiser “Food for Thought” at the Appleford Estate in Villanova from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. More than 120 local officials and residents from Lower Merion, Narberth and beyond will attend. A wine bar will complement the fare with live entertainment provided by The Orpheus Club of Philadelphia.
Once again, we will celebrate the food pantry at the Ada Mutch Community Resource Center. The Pantry provides a much needed source of nutrition during difficult economic times and is a vital addition to ElderNet's wide range of free services. Last year the pantry served 384 individuals in 233 households, 56 of which had children, resulting in a 12% increase over the 2011 distribution.
Our Community Leadership Award will be presented to Audrey and Stanley Merves, long time community volunteers and contributors to all facets of our organization. Our Good Neighbor Award will be given jointly to Joan Toenniessen, former editor of The Main Line Times and founder of “Operation Holiday,” and current managing editor Susan Greenspon, who continues the tradition annually. St. Christopher's Church in Gladwyne will receive the Community Good Neighbor Award for their wide range of volunteer and charitable endeavours, and for their ongoing support of ElderNet and the Ada Mutch Center’s Food Pantry.
