Merion Concert Band Winter Concert

The Merion Concert Band continues its 32nd season with a free "Lifetime of Music" concert on Sunday, February 12th at 3:00 PM at Harriton High School in Rosemont.  The concert features clarinet soloist Anthony Wastler playing von Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet.  Also on the program are the first two movements of Gounod’s Petite Symphonie, a chamber piece featuring 10 musicians; the Shostakovich Prelude Op. 34 No. 14 and Folk Dances; and Divertimento for Band by Persichetti.  This first annual “Lifetime of Music” concert will conclude with select local high school students joining the band for the last two pieces, Jacob’s William Byrd Suite and Fillmore’s His Honor March.  The “Lifetime of Music” concert was developed to recognize the achievements of local high school musicians and to help bridge the gap between the school band and the community band.  Many students are unaware that there are performance opportunities for the non-professional musician beyond high school and college, and this event will help inform and educate high school band students about musical life beyond the school years.

The concert is free and open to the public. There is ample parking and the facility is wheelchair accessible. For more information, call (215) 429-4142 or visit the band’s website at www.merionconcertband.org.
