Harcum College Appoints CJ Scott ‘10 as Men’s Basketball Head Coach

Harcum competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

(March 13, 2026) —CJ Scott ‘10 has been named the next Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball program at Harcum College. Scott takes over the program following John Ball's resignation, who spent nine seasons at Harcum College, including the last four as head coach. Ball played a significant role in building the program and guiding the Bears through multiple competitive seasons.

Scott is no stranger to the Harcum community. A former standout player for the Bears, he graduated from Harcum in 2010 before continuing his collegiate career at Louisiana Tech University. After completing his playing career, Scott earned his Master’s Degree from Millersville University.

Following a brief professional playing stint, Scott returned to Harcum in 2014 to begin his coaching career as an assistant under Drew Kelly, then the head coach. Over the next decade, Scott became a key figure within the program, helping develop student-athletes both on and off the court while contributing to the program’s competitive success.

After ten years as an assistant coach, Scott transitioned into a broader role within the Harcum Athletic Department, taking on additional administrative responsibilities while remaining closely connected to the basketball program.

Athletic Director JJ DeTemple expressed excitement about the program’s future under Scott’s leadership. “CJ Scott represents everything we value at Harcum,” said DeTemple. “He understands the culture of our institution, the importance of developing student-athletes both academically and athletically, and the standard of excellence we expect within our athletic programs. CJ’s journey from student-athlete to assistant coach and now head coach makes this a truly special moment for Harcum Basketball. We are excited to see him lead the program into its next chapter.”

Now stepping into the head coaching role, Scott brings a deep understanding of Harcum’s culture and mission. “Harcum College helped me achieve my goals on and off the court,” said Scott. “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this program and give future student-athletes the same opportunities that helped shape my life. My goal is to help our players grow, compete, and achieve their goals both academically and athletically.”

Scott’s return to lead the program represents a full-circle moment for the Harcum community, as a former player and long-time coach now takes the helm of the program that helped shape his career. Harcum College Athletics looks forward to the continued growth of the men’s basketball program under Scott’s leadership.
