Harriton HS Soup Event Raises Nearly $900 For Local Food Bank
Students sold handcrafted ceramic bowls and homemade soups at the recent "Empty Bowls" fundraiser event to combat hunger.

BRYN MAWR, PA – Harriton High School recently hosted its first ever Empty Bowls fundraiser where students made their own bowls, soups, desserts, and marketing materials to raise funds for a local food bank.
When all was said and done, the event generated $880 for the Narberth Community Food Bank, the Lower Merion School District said.
The event was a joint effort from the school's art, business, and family consumer sciences departments, as well as many other volunteers and organizations.

Harriton students and staff took advantage of the school's Day of Service to create more than 100 ceramic bowls which were raffled off at the Empty Bowl event. Basic foods students made soups and desserts to be sold at the event. Business students took on an entire marketing campaign for the event.
Student from the Soup Kitchen Club, Harriton Service League, and National Honor Society also participated in the event.

The Empty Bowls Project is a global grassroots initiative started by the Imagine/RENDER Group with a three-fold mission "to raise as much money as possible to feed the world's hungry people; to increase awareness of hunger and related issues; and to advocate for arts education."
