Lower Merion Schools Hosting Annual MLK Afternoon Of Service
The school community is invited to take on community service projects at Harriton High School Jan. 17 in honor of Martin Lither King Jr.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion School District is rallying in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. for its annual community service day.
From 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, the district will host the annual MLK Afternoon of Service at Harriton High School.
Students, their caregivers, and their families are invited to participate in a wide array of hands-on service projects including creating no-sew blankets and Dream Flags for patients at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Valentines for Veterans, dog chew toys, duffel bags for children in the foster care system and cards for new moms accessing the Maternity Care Coalition's services.

Attendees will also be able to partake in art projects.
The first 150 participants will receive official 2020 MLK Day of Service t-shirts.

Also, the district will be collecting and sorting items for donations to local charities and social service agencies.
Items needed for donation include:
- New or gently used children's clothing and toys
- Toiletries/personal care items
- New or gently used coats, hats and scarves
- Canned goods: soups, pasta meals, fish, chicken and fruit
- Boxed goods: cereals, granola bars, pasta, cocoa packets
- Pudding and applesauce cups
- Jars of peanut butter and jelly
The afternoon will also feature live musical entertainment and snacks and refreshments available for purchase benefiting charitable initiatives.
Harriton High School is located at 600 N. Ithan Ave. in Rosemont.
